'BEN'
December 23, 2007
Ben passed away on the morning of Dec 23, 2007. We LOVED him; he was the
best dog! And he had a wonderful life while he was with us. It was all very
sudden ... but apparently he had hemangiosarcoma of the spleen (very aggressive
cancer). Ben was 96 lbs the day he died. He was not fat but he was well-muscled
from all the walks and exercise, but actually his favorite pastime was laying
on the couch watching TV with my husband! We wished he could be with us
for a longer time but he was the absolute best! The best word to describe
him was "grateful." He was grateful for everything --- food, toys
... and most especially his home with us! He just woke up very day ... happy!
We miss him!
Owners - Jay & Rita Payne
Benjamin came into Countryside Animal Rescue in February of 2006, just
two hours before being euthanized by his owner. It was a phone call from
the vet office that saved his life and we are so glad we were able to help
him. He was a remarkable dog for the life he had lived previously. Ben lived
as an outside dog most of his life and didn't have the luxuries of a soft
bed, a warm loving home or a real chance to be a dog. We would like to thank
Jay and Rita for giving Ben a second chance at a wonderful life and although
he was not with them long enough, we know those were the best 19 months
of life he ever had!

'POOTER'
1993 to August 24, 2007
In
memory of my precious little Pooter. She went to the Rainbow Bridge on last
Friday evening to see Henrietta, Leonard and Choco. To anyone that didn't
know her, she was my very first kitten rescue back in 1993 and she is the
reason I do cat rescue now! I found her at a friend's house in southern
Indiana out in the woods all by herself, no mommy or siblings anywhere.
I couldn't leave that little bundle of fur out there for the scavengers
to eat. Remember, I wasn't a cat lover at that time, I had no pets. She
was only approximately 5 weeks old and was the size of a hot dog when I
went to bathe her and that
was
14 years ago. We shared lots of joy together, many cat naps, and lots of
tears throughout that time.
Pooter changed my life as she is what started the whole cat thing for me!
She tolerated me bringing in more and more cats to help rescue, and before
her I just didn't know what I was missing! She will be sadly missed by me
and Mike as she was so special being my very first cat!! We will see you
at the Rainbow Bridge. Pooter's Mom & Dad - Mike & Kim Kase
'INGA'
May 1995 to August 17, 2007
Inga was our first greyhound and she kind of started the greyhound craze
for my niece and several of our friends. We adopted her in early December
of 1999. I wanted to adopt a greyhound, but I was nervous about it and
didn’t know why. I filled out the application and was approved.
The next step was to go and meet the hounds to see who would be the best
match for us. This was my first time to meet Sally Allen. She has been
rescuing greyhounds since 1988 and has become one of my dearest friends.
She told me that she had a little female for me to see. Well...in bounded
this big, beautiful, brindle female who had just had a bath and was running
circles around a very small room. I think I asked the question that Sally
has heard hundreds of times..are they always like this? Anyway, I just
could not commit that day for whatever reason, but I did put a deposit
down. The next Saturday we were back to pick up our first hound and of
course it was Inga. Inga strolled into our home like she had always lived
there, checked out the water and food dishes, had a bite to eat and then
got on the couch and laid down. Ok. So that’s that! She’s
home. She could have cared less about Bailey, but he was very interested
in her. She tolerated him and they soon became great friends. Inga loved
people, walks, meet & greets, but most of all she loved her couch
and her family. She had a strange ritual and carried it out many nights.
Around 9:30 she would get up off of the couch and go into the dining room,
and then she would just start barking. A very shrill, high bark. If you
talked to her then she would bark more. At first we thought she wanted
to go out, but that wasn’t it. I think she was just talking or maybe
it was part of some routine procedure that happened at the race track
every night and was still carried out in her memory. Inga loved kitty,
kitties but not in a way that was good for the kitty. She would spend
hours watching the neighbor’s cat, teeth chattering and if the kitty
moved Inga would bark joyfully and loud as if to say “the kitty,
kitty moved!!!” Also, in her first few days with us she would watch
the fish tank for hours at a time sometimes standing and sometimes lying
down, but always watching and when the fish darted quickly she would get
so excited. One more thing, she had an overbite and it absolutely endeared
her to
everyone that met her. It was precious and so was she! We miss
her terribly and she will remain in our hearts for always. She was our “missy
poo poo”! Cindy & Brian

'BAILEY'
August 15, 1994 to August 16, 2007
Bailey was 13 years old and he was a beautiful, stubborn, and full of
life guy! I first saw him in October of 94. He was the last Dalmatian
puppy left. They kept him in check by keeping him in a large clothes
basket. He would stay in the basket with his toys and the lady would
pull him around in the basket as she went from room to room. She gave
me a demo of how he would just stay in the basket and not try to get
out. I was amazed, but I left without getting him. We got down the
road about 6 or 7 miles and I could not get him off of my mind, so
I went back, wrote a check for $125 and took my little spotted guy
home. I got out the clothes basket to show Ronald and Karyne how well
he behaved. I put him in the basket and he immediately jumped out,
so I tried again, same result. Bailey was not having any more of that
nonsense. No more clothes baskets Mom!! I’m home and he was!!
He loved people, car rides and for some reason liked to sniff our friends’ hair.
It was not uncommon for him to get up behind someone on the couch and
bury his nose in their hair. He also loved balls and Frisbees. He would
chase after them, crash into other dogs to get them, fall, slide, roll
over and run full speed back to me with the treasure in his mouth.
He liked to play with Brian and loved it when Brian would carry him
in his arms like he was flying or twirl him around until he was dizzy.
Brian would set him down on the ground and he would be so dizzy he
would almost fall over, but would come right back at Brian for more.
For these reasons we called him “Adventure Puppy” and it
really fit. He went full force at life with a great deal of joy and
gusto. His other nicknames were “little man”, and “little
dude”. He also liked to come and sit behind me in the chair and
would kind of wrap himself around me and I would sit on the edge of
the chair to accommodate him, sometimes leaning back against him and
we would both take a little nap. He was and still is my friend and
he will always be my little man. We miss you Bailey and you will be
in our hearts forever!! Cindy & Brian
'STRICKLAND'
July 21, 2007
In memory of Strickland Anderson, our beautiful and wonderful greyhound
friend. On 7/21/07 Strickland went to sleep surrounded by his Mom Karyne,
his nanny Margie, Auntie Chris and myself. He was a true gentleman
right to his very last breath. He made sure that he came over to each
one of us several times and leaned against us, accepting our hugs,
kisses and all the loving words that we could muster up. He was truly
a great dog and a wonderful ambassador for greyhounds. His first home
had to return him to the rescue for whatever reason. (we all know how
that goes) But I'm glad that they did because he ended up with Karyne
and he spent his last years in a very loving home where he was safe,
loved and secure. He loved to go to meet & greets and people that
met him were amazed at his kind and gentle nature. He adored people,
other dogs, children and cats. He loved to eat and if he
turned down
food you knew something was very wrong. He just basically loved his
life and he lived it with great joy. He was a blessing to us all and
we will miss him very much. One is of him and his mommy Karyne at the
Countryside Animal Rescue/Little 500 Event at Specks from 2006 and
the other was taken not long after he came to live with Karyne and
Kelly. He's snuggled down on the couch, head on the pillow, covered
up and sound asleep. What a life!!!

'CHARLIE'
July 18, 2007
"Charlie touched our lives and we loved him dearly.
He loved to ride in his stroller and enjoyed walks
with his brother, Buster and sister, Bonny,
both Jack Russell Terriers. He lived like a king and
was loved by everyone that came in contact with him.
We rescued Charlie on July 8, 2006 and he gave us
one year and ten days of blessed time
and wonderful love." Marianne, Marty & Christin Dollar

'CLOVER'
March 17, 2007
by Cindy and Brian
Clover was our 2nd retired greyhound and he came into our home with a
positive and loving spirit. He carried that spirit and his very loving
ways right up until his last breath. Anyway, when we first got him, he
would collect things from around the house and lay them on his dog bed.
He collected everything from the TV remote, alarm clock, figurines and
photo albums. He
would put them on his dog bed and lay by them. He never
hurt a single one of those items, not a chip or a break. He also worried
whenever we moved furniture around or did any kind of remodeling or painting,
especially if it involved moving the food and water bowls. He would cry
and look at us, like get it back where it belongs. He loved to go for
walks, he loved to sleep with us and he loved to eat. He had a huge crush
on our friend Judy’s dog Madison. He would follow her all over
the place. It was so cute. Of course she didn’t want anything to
do with him. She just didn’t realize how handsome he was. He was
the Cary Grant of dogs. Loving, very suave and funny. He never met a
person or another dog that he didn’t like. Brian and I are truly
honored to have known him and been loved by him. I wanted to honor him
by telling you all about him and how special he was to us. He will live
in our hearts forever. Thank you all for your support. Isn’t he
gorgeous?!! Love, Cindy & Brian
'KLINK'
March 2007
by Pam & Steve Roebling
When I come to visit; there are no more barks
of greeting,
no more sounds of small toenails on the floor, no more cuddles under
the blanket, no more demands to be let out just so that you could come
in and get a treat and no more walks where you would be into everything.
Smart, high spirited, manipulative, demanding, loving and brave. You
took a back seat to no one. You were always your own dog. Then, there
came the day when Cushing's overcame you and you could no longer enjoy
your favorite pastimes. Everyone knew it was time for you to rest, but
oh, how quiet the house is. Your granny misses you.
'SYDNEY'
March 17, 2007
by Peggy, Jim, Dan & Patrick Dixon
Sydney was a spaniel mix rescued in 2000,
during the Sydney Olympics. He bonded to our two
sons for whom he will always be a special, loving pet.
He was so grateful to have a home after being
abandoned in a churchyard for several days.
We miss him. We loved him
dearly and he loved us.
