Our Beloved Pets - 2006
'BOBBY' 
1992 - June 9, 2006
Bobby came to live with us in March of 2004. He had lived his entire life,
twelve years, in a shelter. He was my first "rescue" and I thought that I
would bring this poor old soul home to live out his last few months. What
I thought would be a few months turned into two and a half wonderful years
with our sweet, sweet Bobby. He blossomed into the dog he should have always
been; chasing rabbits, lying in the sun, enjoying a soft bed and nudging
my hand for "pets". He touch my heart in a way that I didn't think possible.
He has been gone almost a year now and I still miss him so much.

All of our friends and family that knew 
Choco understood
how much we loved him. Mike and I made the decision to let him go to the
Rainbow Bridge today. We were very fortunate to have Choco for the short
period of time we did. He was diagnosed this past October with cancer and
he also suffered from severe arthritis as well. A week ago we got the news
that the cancer had spread into the lungs and he was starting to cough and
any little excitement would lead to more coughing. He could no longer walk
the short block of our neighborhood, which he loved to do, and he spent much
more time inside alone from the other pets. We know it was time and he is
pain free now and resting comfortably.
He was a very special little man that came into our lives and taught me and Mike a lot about how you should never judge a dog by their appearance or by their age.
We first met Choco as he resided in the Madison County Humane Society in 2003 when we both started volunteering there. We always noticed this pathetic older dog that would go outside and just lay there, never moving or playing, just looking ahead with no expression. His coat was long and matted and he never ever wanted to go back into the building after a few hours outside in a kennel. He would always have to be dragged into the building on a lead or carried back inside to his cage by an employee. It was heartbreaking to watch this everyday. We weren’t sure if he just loved being outside or really didn’t want to go back into that cage.
Well, one day while he was being dragged in the door, I stopped and asked a few questions about him. May I pet him and what is his story? I was told he was a stray that was found and had lived there for several years already. He was a 9-10 year old Chow mix and he didn’t like other dogs, was not good with kids, etc. Once I put my hands on him to pet him, I felt the matted mess and his skin was in such a horrible mess. I knew I had to do something. So I asked for a brush, I started brushing him and he just looked up at me with those big brown eyes in a way that melted my heart! It was at that point I made the connection with Choco. I decided to make a grooming appointment for him at our personal groomer. After several hours of pampering I couldn’t believe my eyes when I picked him up! Here is the most beautiful red Australian Shepherd I had ever seen! No one even knew what breed of a dog he was or what a rare find Choco was. Well, he went home with us from the groom shop and we fell in love with him. He walked into our home and hearts and was greeted by all of our pets and he never one time had a problem with any dog, cat, child, or person! He just came to life after leaving the Humane Society and we found him to be “the perfect dog”!!! Another big surprise was that Choco loved to be indoors near us. Never again would he be dragged inside to go to a cage. Yes, he loved going outside in our fenced in back yard, but when it was time to come in he would come running.
Thanks to all for your kind words and support through this past week while we spent quality time with Choco before we let him go. He will be sadly missed by me and Mike and all our furry kids.
We would adopt another senior dog in a heartbeat! So please consider adopting a dog or cat in need, just open up your home and heart like we did and you’ll see and feel the joy that will come into your life.

'LEONARD MICHAEL'
1990-2005
We just wanted to share this with all our family and friends
that knew our little Leonard. He was like one of our children and it was
one of the hardest things we have ever had to do. We let Leonard go in peace
last night at 7:15 p.m. and now he awaits us at the gates of Rainbow Bridge.
He had a wonderful life with Mike and I and we made some wonderful memories.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

'BUTTER'

Butter found her way to our home with two of her small
puppies in 1989. She had been mistreated as she was so afraid of everyone
and especially flyswatters, brooms and feet. I loved her so much. After
several wonderful years with us and when she could no longer walk on
her own at Shadyside Park because of a steadily worsening heart, I bought
a stroller so we could still enjoy the walk together. She finally died
of heart failure. Many at the park knew her by name and missed her too.
She was a beautiful cocker spaniel, not only outwardly, but in heart
and spirit as well. We miss her.
Also in memory of 'MITZI', our first black cocker way back in 1970 thru 1983. Jim still thinks she was the smartest cocker he has ever owned.
In memory of 'PEACHES', Mitzi's daughter, who suffered from Rage Syndrome and had to be euthanized when she was only two years old. I cried and cried. 1973 - 1975
In memory of 'PANDORA', also Mitzi's daughter, who was
so sweet and beautiful.
1973 - 1986
In memory of 'VENUS', one of the two puppies that
came to our house with Butter. She was half cocker spaniel and half beagle
and she suffered badly from epilepsy. Her heart gave out when she
was only 7 years old. She was a sweetheart. 1989 - 1996.
